MY NEW FOUND PASSION. COCKTAIL CRAFTING.
If you follow me on Instagram (which, of course, you do – duh) you know that I have fully embraced my new skills (and perhaps obsession) as an at-home bartender. I am mixing this, shaking that, and pouring it up for me, myself, and I – and having an absolute BLAST doing it.
Pre quarantimes, I had always left cocktail crafting to the masters, but in desperate times I have really let my curiosities wander and have taken on the idea of cocktail creating as a full-on adventure. Some folks bake, or cook, I apparently make cocktails!
My “M.O.” when it comes to cocktail creating is “simplicity, and minimal, mostly fresh ingredients” – as it should be. Start small and grow with your confidence. I started with cocktails that were basic in flavor and building blocks like, “spirit/citrus/sweetener”, and over time I have experimented with adding new elements like bitters, liqueurs, aromatics, and even techniques/bar tools.
MY NEW FOUND OBSESSION: LUXARDO
Where we’re at in this part of the journey has landed us with one, very very important brand (that exceedingly expands my horizons with each new product and thus discovery): Luxardo. An Italian crafter of spirits, liqueurs, and of course, their famous maraschino cherries. They have an established brand since 1821 (several of their product recipes are older than my great grandparents) and their products have always remained bar cart staples.
As I explain in this video, I became “obsessed” with Luxardo by being introduced to their Luxardo Bitter Rosso – a product used to make a classic Italian cocktail, the Negroni. Before trying Luxardo’s Bitter Rosso I was pretty sure I wasn’t a fan of Negronis. I used to say they were “too bitter”. But I was sent a bottle of Luxardo Bitter Rosso to try (for a different collaboration) and I couldn’t believe how much I actually enjoyed this odd, complex, and yet somehow delicious cocktail. Then I found myself craving said cocktail on almost a daily basis and, well, before I knew it I was almost out of my beloved Bitter Rosso.
Thus it was time to experiment with more Luxardo products and push the envelope – and the fun – a little bit more.
You wouldn’t believe what a kismet collaboration this is, and how fortunate I feel to be able to partner with a brand that I truly obsess over. Luxardo has opened my eyes to so many possibilities with my newfound passion and has fueled my curiosities even farther. We start with three simple, classic Luxardo cocktails but trust me, this is just the beginning! It only takes one Luxardo product to understand the appreciation, but frankly, why stop at one? Look how happy I am?
I cannot wait to share more in my adventures in cocktailing, and I am thrilled to have Luxardo as part of my bar cart repertoire! Enjoy the video – it’s my first “long” video!!! – and let me know what you’re crafting in the comments, or better yet, what your favorite Luxardo goodies are!
WHERE TO FIND LUXARDO
Many Luxardo products are carried at big retailers such as BevMo!, Total Wine & More, and Wine.com – put in a quick google search for the product you’re looking for and it should pop up with options.
