Picture this: you’re craving a restaurant quality meal and you have the recipe and the exact ingredients and the full capability to make one at home… so you do it, right?! Agreed, and the crazy thing is, this “picture” is totally a thing. Salted Eats is their name, and helping you cook LA’s best dishes *at home* is their game. Similar to meal delivery services like Plated or Blue Apron, Salted Eats allows you to choose from weekly menus and then subsequently delivers the ingredients to make said dishes in your very own kitchen. Salted Eats stands out amongst pretty much all other meal delivery services because you’re not only getting restaurant quality meal ingredients/recipes… you’re getting the recipes for your favorite restaurant dishes created by your favorite LA based chefs! Every week Salted Eats features different dishes for you to try and sign up for, and the best part is there’s no subscriptions – you only order what you actually want to cook. They’ve got chefs from all backgrounds on board and no matter what you’re in the mood for there’s something fun *and easy* for you to try.

Last week I had Sotto’s gnocchi dish delivered to my apartment to officially give this whole Salted Eats thing a shot. I was admittedly already a little hesitant at the thought of trying to make one of (what appears to be) the most difficult dishes on the face of the earth for us kitchen inept folk, but the recipe said “15-20 minutes” and “easy” so it seemed worthy of an attempt. I received my insulated Salted Eats bag directly at my doorstep, I unpacked the ingredients, watched the tutorial with chef Steve Samson himself, cheffed the shit out of the ingredients, and voila. Just kidding I took all of the ingredients straight to my friend Kara’s house and let a pro pretty much do all of the work because Kara has talent (check out her recipe blog: bykaraelise.com), proper cooking utensils and of course delicious wine. Which is a totally fair trade for a damn fine recipe, fresh local ingredients, excellent company and a little moral support. The meal turned out great and totally has me curious about attempting the others. (With or without Kara’s help.) Salted Eats is such a fun new way to spice things up in the kitchen, and it’s perfect for us LA foodies ready to get our hands dirty.
