In theory, NYC in the Winter sounds like an excellent opportunity for a native Californian to finally put to good use all of the “cold weather” clothes that sit unworn in their closet. When packing for 5 – 35 degree weather, generally speaking the main goal is warmth, but if you’re at all like me, stubborn and determined to always dress properly, fashion is unquestionably first priority. With each new year I visit NYC in the Winter, I’ve learned to completely master the art to dressing well and staying warm, the key being “invisible layering”. Imperative items of mine include tights under jeans, socks under tights, cable-knit beanies, and most importantly: Uniqlo’s Ultra Light Down “compact” jacket – it’s so warm and so easy to hide under clothes!
This season I’m obsessing over statement coats, plaid, oversized sweaters, over the knee boots, and menswear inspired pieces; it was such a blast putting all of these trends to the test in the Big Apple – and even getting to wear some to the shows at this season’s New York Fashion Week!
