The Pikey Burger

The Scene.

You can take the gastro out of a pub but you can’t take the pub out of the The Pikey. Instead of going with the “modern tavern” route, the Pikey keeps it “simple” with their preference in taking a more classic route in defining for themselves what it means to be a pub. Between red leather booths, dim lit iron chandeliers, dark wood surrounding, telltale British tidbits and photos adorning the walls, and the familiar fried scent of fish n’ chips wafting in the air, it’s safe to assume you’ve got a very English inspired pub on your hands. Sure The Pikey has its more non-classic English Pub aspects like mimosas and pumpkin pancakes at brunch, they make craft cocktails with names like “skinny mustache”, and they offer more than just your average pub staples and beer-like beverages, but this is Los Angeles, the land where a variety of influences come together to make great things even better – it’s not called a melting pot for nothin’.

The Skinny.

Brunch at the Pikey: prepare to be amazed. Upon taking your seat, sit back, relax, and put your hand out because you are about to enjoy a mimosa on the house. Thereafter you’ll decide one was not enough, skim the menu to find what you’d expect to be a typo but as you will learn, actually is not – yes, a bottle of champagne and a carafe of orange juice is just $15. I’m sad and a little mystified to say that I’m pretty sure I’ve ordered just one mimosa for that price?

The menu offers plenty of sweet and plenty of savory options for your choosing. If you’ve worked out and burned enough calories to be careless, or if you’re just feelin’ particularly wild, might I suggest you follow in my steps: start with the pumpkin pancakes because why the fuck not, and round the meal off with the Pikey burger served with their thick cut fries. Now lets talk about that burger for a minute… picture this: an impressively perfect circular ***JUICY*** patty (watch your pants), a fluffy, fun looking bun (that looked/tasted like challah), aged cheddar that wasn’t overpowering, all smothered in a glorious Worcestershire aioli. I can now tell you the last time I finished an entire burger: last weekend at the Pikey. What regularly goes down on weekends at The Pikey is a bit of a gluttonous indulgence but one worth entertaining on occasion none the less.

Besides an epic brunch and that incredible burger, The Pikey offers a great happy hour everyday (thank god), from 4 – 7 (thank god), with $3 beers, $5 glasses of wine, & cocktail specials. Their dark wood bar is perfect for a date spot, or just a night out with a friend or two. The Pikey seems to attract a younger crowd but a relaxed one at that. In other words you’ll usually be able to find a place to sit or stand – kind of an imperative quality to have in my book – and you’ll always be able to order and enjoy a cocktail and some good ol’ fashioned pub fare.
