VIVA HOLLYWOOD

I have been out in Hollywood more times in the past month than I feel like I have in 2-3 years. Hollywood finally seems to be filling in the gaps with totally worthwhile cocktail bars and eateries and Viva Hollywood is one of my latest and greatest favorites to enter the neighborhood. Viva took over the space that was once Beso and converted it into a casual chic Mexican centric restaurant with ideal ambiance and all around great food. All I had to know prior to making the decision to pay Viva a visit was that Chef Raymond Alvarez (formerly of Toca Madera) had something to do with it and I was sold. Toca Madera and Tocaya offer some of my absolute favorite Mexican food in Los Angeles so I could easily count on Viva to uphold the same standard.

I love that it still has that borderline classically clubby Hollywood vibe, but that the food really blows everything else in the area out of the water. It’s a great place to go for drinks and some tacos, but it’s also a perfect place to host a party or large group because of the sheer grandness of the space. I don’t think it’s called VIVA HOLLYWOOD for nothin’, pave the way my friends!

Must Drink | “LALALAND”: Grey Goose Le Citron, Lemon, Giffard Pamplemousse, Aged Whiskey Bitters, Champagne OR the classic “VIVA MARGARITA”: Corralejo Silver, Lime, Cucumber, Mint, Agave

Must Order | You absolutely must start with the plantain chips with guacamole – this is my all time favorite “chips” and guac dish in all of Los Angeles and I mean it! I would drive as long as it took to have this appetizer! In terms of other appetizer type dishes you should also try the sweet corn tamales – again some of my favorite. A close second to the chips and guac are their tacos – especially their batteredr fish and beef tacos – the tortillas are INCREDIBLE, they’re up there with Salazar in my opinion. If we’re talking main dishes you should definitely try the stuffed poblano pepper or the enchiladas suizas, and don’t forget to get sides – especially the corn! IF you save room for dessert, be smart and get the churros.

Perfect Spot For | Dinner // damn good Mexican food // chips, guac, and cocktails // a nice place to have dinner in Hollywood // large parties // date night
