It’s happening you guys. High caliber Fashion Shows are officially starting to come to Los Angeles!!! My dreams of not having to travel to NYC to catch everything are starting to come to fruition, and words can hardly express my excitement.

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending Rebecca Minkoff’s incredible, inspiring, and downright GIRL POWER show at The Grove, and just this past Wednesday I had the equally incredible opportunity to attend the Tommy Hilfiger X GiGi Hadid show. If there’s anything I’ve taken away this week (besides new clothes from the collections) it’s that there is a significant amount of change in the air within the fashion world. And it’s fucking AWESOME. Not only are brands/designers showcasing collections on the West Coast, they’re starting to showcase collections that will become available immediately after their reveal. Both Rebecca Minkoff AND Tommy Hilfiger made their collections available right then and there for Spring – something that is completely out of the norm in terms of show/production protocol. Most of what you’re seeing on the runway is two seasons away (so NYFW is showcasing Fall items), but it seems like an almost obvious and ingenious move to create the collections entirely and make them available to shop immediately. No one can rip off your designs, and shoppers/fans feel more included in the process.

The Tommy X GiGi show though, regardless of it being held in LA, was on a whole other level in terms of fashion shows. This show was one of the most insane productions I’ve personally ever witnessed or experienced first hand. I had the incredible opportunity to partner with InStyle Magazine and Tommy Hilfiger to work on a project (coming out next week hopefully!!) and part of that was of course attending the show held in Venice Beach right on the boardwalk in front of Windward Plaza. Poor me. (They even dressed me too, just terrible.)

The whole area had been turned into “TOMMYLAND” complete with a giant slide, carnival rides, food trucks, fire dancers, skateboarders, rollerbladers, activation stations, a stage, shops, and most importantly a giant runway. It was pure genius insanity. One of the best things about the show, besides being able to shop ALL of the runway looks right then and there, was that entry into the show was extended to EVERYONE; if you entered on their site you had the chance of attending for free. There were tons of people admitted, and because it was so fun, so casual, and so inclusive, I’m really not sure another show will be able to top it.  It was like being on a movie set in Venice Beach, attending an amazing fashion show, and going to a Fergie concert, all wrapped up in one epic evening.

It all still feels a bit like a dream and it really will go down as one of the most memorable experiences in my life – I mean it! Here’s to more forward thinking brands/designers coming to LA to share their work on the West Coast, and here’s to the insanely talented duo Tommy Hilfiger and GiGi Hadid for crafting an AMAZING collection! View the show AND shop all the looks right HERE!!!
