“I’ll take one of everything – in other words, the entire store” were my first thoughts upon walking into Beverly Grove vintage design store, Style de Vie. I had barely walked 3 steps into the cozy showroom and I’d already decided I was not to be fooled by the deceivingly large space and its delicate clutter of vintage finds; it would decidedly be an incredible task to find something I didn’t want to take home with me. This particular LA based vintage design and fabrication house has items and elements you thought you could only find in shabby shape at the flea market, at an auction, or brand new and knocked off from mega mainstream design stores – Style de Vie is everything us vintage decor nerds hoped and dream would exist, right here in the City of Angels.
Style de Vie has been a trusted source not only for customers looking for pieces or design solutions for their homes, but they’ve also served as a valuable resource for architects, design professionals, and business owners alike. Since 1993 Style de Vie has been considered an innovator of vintage design in Los Angeles and are known not only for their methods of actually finding such incredible vintage pieces, but for their knowledge and expertise in salvaging/restoring a variety of finds as well. One of my favorite things they’ve got featured in the showroom right now are these authentic vintage trolley signs from London that the Style de Vie team has “up-cycled” into frameable/hangable works of art.
Walking around ogling at every tiny incredible detail the showroom offered, I had plenty of moments where I thought, “How did they find this stuff? And how do new things I want to buy just keep appearing?” But that’s the great thing about this store, besides the evident fact that Style de Vie’s taste as a whole is flawless, you could spend many-a-minutes uncovering and discovering all of the things and services they have to offer. I wasted plenty of time sorting through drawers of vintage maps, prints, touching fabrics and stones they offer in terms of their custom design, and glancing over table-sides peppered with distinctive little vintage gems.
Being the clear fan of vintage and all things art/design related girl that I am, I was awarded the beyond amazing opportunity to style a little in-store setup with a few of the pieces in the showroom. – sometimes, my job grants me opportunities to do really cool shit – So together with owner/vintage design master J.C. Hyrb and showroom babe Remi, I picked, placed, moved, and draped a scene I’d only hope to feature in a home of my own. As far as my personal taste goes, I’ve always been interested in finding a happy balance between masculine and feminine elements, and I’ve always had a particular attraction to French vintage pieces – I love leather, and weather, but I enjoy pops of color and soft lighting and fabrics all the same. After all was said and done, my little Style de Vie creation truly was “Caroline” in a vintage design nutshell.
Having created such successful brand centered around vintage decor, it almost seems obvious that Style de Vie would offer custom furniture design, and interior design services as well. “We opened our Los Angeles flagship store to clients to use as an atelier to realize any project from design to fabrication; conceptual to construction. Our mission is to provide clients with a creative experience that is personalized and hands-on, ensuring that each piece and every space is true to their unique vision.”
