Love and Loathing LA Bowlero

Speak on anything having to do with “blacklight”, “bowling”, or “Bowlero”, and you’ve got my full attention. You may or may not already be familiar with the brand Bowlero, they’ve got locations all over Texas, but the one you might be most familiar with is their first California endeavor located in Mar Vista. Bowlero’s whole brand philosophy is genius: take something old, quite possibly sad and run down, bring it up-to-date a bit and restore its former glory. In their words, Bowlero is “born of the past and sent from the future, combining rustic, vintage nostalgia, and modern, eclectic style all in one delightfully different event space”. We’re all probably familiar with a few other bowling brands out there in LA with a similar goal of making the alley “happening” again, but to me Bowlero if personified is the undeniably cool (yet completely unaware of it) brother of the family that’s just goin’ places. He has a beard, drinks craft beer, owns his own business up-cyling furniture, and just wants to do good by the world. There’s something about this type of vibe that many of us Angelenos can’t help but be drawn to.

Bowlero gets bowling. And Bowlero gets branding. Both of which make me nerd out in ways we probably don’t need to dive into, so when I was invited to their VIP pre-opening celebration in honor of their new Woodland Hills location, my RSVP was a definitive “Y.E.S yes!” Bowlero took over the old Woodland Hills AMF building and completely gave new life to the space. At the VIP party I was not only able to bowl the night away with hundreds of other guests, I was able to sip on great wine and get a taste of what amazing food they’ll have available – all prepared and curated by Executive Chef Edward Porter – who FYI, was the winner of Food Network’s Grocery Store Games. – AMAZING. –

With brand new decor, a state-of-the art interactive arcade, 32 freshly waxed blacklight bowling lanes, floor to ceiling video screens, and an incredible food + beverage program, Bowlero Woodland Hills has done it and they’ve done it right. I had a complete and total blast the other night at the VIP celebration; it one of those nights I could have spent hours hanging out with friends, laughing and having the best time trying not to get gutter balls and at least attempting to beat my last (likely crappy) score. You, like me, might not be the best bowler in the world, but when the experience as a whole is anything like Bowlero offers – it doesn’t even matter.

Bowlero Woodland Hills officially opens TODAY March 11th! Come by between 12 – 4 pm and enjoy FREE BOWLING (yes please?), arcade play, giveaways, and more. The afternoon will be hosted by Cooking Channel’s Tiffani Thiessen (star of 90210 & Saved by the Bell), and it’s going to be a blast.
