Ever find yourself craving a slice and some coffee? Thoughts of banana cream, apple, custard, and maple keep dancing across your thoughts? If you, like me, find this craving creep up regardless of whether or not it’s “National Pie (Pi?) Day”, don’t settle for taking a trip to the nearest Marie Calendars or a grocery store to get your pie on. If you’re gonna get pie in Los Angeles, do it right: head Downtown or to Pasadena to get the real Mac Daddy, the real OG of pies from Pie Hole.

As all pie shops should, Pie Hole has the sweetest backstory behind its creation. Yes, just like something out of a freakin movie, Pie Hole is a dream come true idea hatched from a mother and son team who combined their creative skills, love of pies, and extraordinarily large collection of original recipies to open up a shop of their very own. (cue the “awwww??”s) Several more friends and family members jumped on board to help support the business that has grown into quite the Los Angeles sweet shop staple with an almost cult like following. I always say, nobody loves treats like Los Angeles and this little shop is at the forefront of making pie a thing, like a cool thing in our obsessively modern city. (For the record I always thought pie was cool, but hey, I’ve had a pie problem since the day I could eat it.)

The process of opening an LA’s first authentic pie shop was a daunting one, with thousands of hours of building, testing pie, tasting coffee, and bringing together an amazing team to provide the greatest possible pie experience known to man. We are fun, don’t take ourselves too seriously (the pie and coffee is very serious), and love to have a chat with all our customers, who inevitably become regulars.

I’ve been going on and on about Pie Hole being the “sweet treat spot”, but for those of you who may not know what Pie Hole is and everything else they got goin’ on, lemme share something with you. Pie Hole aint exactly your average pie place, sure they’ve got your good ol’ fashioned’s like the Double Crust Apple, or the Sweet Potato, but they’ve got some other goodies baking in that joint you may be surprised to find like their famous Earl Grey Tea pie, or the Peanut Butter Ice Box. The smart, unique, thing about Pie Hole isn’t just their interesting array of sweet pies, it’s alsotheir array of their savory pies. Not in the mood for apple or chocolate just yet? Maybe the Mac n Cheese, Chicken and Cornbread, or Steak and Ale pie fits your fancy instead. Just when you thought this couldn’t get any better, I got one more for ya. So let’s say you’re not even hungry at all! And maybe you’re a coffee aficionado! Great news for even you: Pie Hole makes their very own special organic coffee and coffee MUGS – if you’re a dork like me and buy those, trust me, show off your Pie Hole mug to your friends and instantly accrue 100 “cool” points.

There’s clearly a little something for everyone at Pie Hole, everyone has the opportunity to discover their pie whether it be sweet or savory, so if you live in LA and haven’t been, get to it. If you’re from out of town and plan on making a trip to our fine “little” city, I whole heartedly suggest after your delicious dinner at WP24, Church and State, Lazy Ox, Baco Mercat (etc, etc), that you go have a slice of pie and a cup of coffee from the little pie shop that makes us Angelenos so proud to call our own.
