“WE CAN BRING FOOD AND WINE TO THE SHOW!” goes down in history as one of the happiest texts I’ll ever receive. It’s like Christmas morning when I find out I have tickets to one of the shows at the bowl where picnicking is allowed. I don’t know why I get so confused with which show you can bring beverages to and which ones you can’t, I think it has something to do with being lazy, but none the less I love the happy news of “Trader Joe’s brown bags filled with wine and goodies are allowed”.

Last night I saw M83 play with the LA Philharmonic, and besides it being an incredibly amazing show, going to the bowl is an incredibly amazing experience. You hear about “shows at The Hollywood Bowl” all the time; The Bowl is an LA fixture, a landmark if you will, but you wont understand its importance until you go and see for yourself. There’s not many places that make you feel that small in Los Angeles, and it’s an awe inspiring, almost humbling experience. You look down, around, and back at all the people there with you and its a strange feeling, realizing just how many mother f*ers are in LA, sharing your interests, living a similar life to yours.

Whats special about this place to me is 1. the obvious, as mentioned over and over again, picnicking (at some shows). I love that I can pop my own bottles and have an excuse to eat and bring 5 different types of cheese. 2. The LA Philharmonic. When they play with performers, there’s just nothing quite like it. I saw them play with Beck a few years ago and I have to admit it was so incredible and moving that it actually made me cry. HA! I’m actually surprised I didn’t cry last night, I think it had something to do with some of my focus being on the blocks of cheese on my lap. Still, seeing the LA Phil is an experience thats hard to describe; best words that come to mind are “epic” and “chills”.

The Bowl season is coming to an end soon and I’m already looking forward to what they have in store for next year. Keep an eye on the calendar because a show at the Bowl is something everyone in LA needs to do at least once, if not once a year. Put it on your bucket list, make sure you get to picnic, and you can thank me later.
