I am so excited about the pasta situation seen in the photos above that I feel like I’m 9 again, expressing my undying loyalty and love for spiral mac n’ cheese. “THE SPIRALS. THEY MAKE IT SO MUCH BETTER.” Seriously though, the dinner I had last night with all of that handmade pasta was so, so, good. Miro, the restaurant that has sparked all of this excited carb-talk, recently opened in the financial district Downtown and seems to be the perfect little ray of modern and hip light the area was a little in need of. It’s the ideal middle ground between fine dining and a bar with food, and for the area it’s a one-of-a-kind. In terms of how it holds up in comparison to the rest of the dining scene in Los Angeles, in my opinion, let’s just say it’s an experience worth the drive no matter what part of town you’re coming in from. (The pasta, I’m tellin’ you.)

Chef Gavin Mills along with former Faith + Flower vets Tyler Dow and Josh Allen have worked together to make a stunning concept that is just as easy on the taste buds as it is on the eyes. The menu is intensely focused on being farmers market and seasonally driven, and for such a large menu with quite the variety of types of dishes, how the pull it all off and pull it off so well is seriously impressive. This is one of those places I’m already making plans on plans for my return(s) because I’ve got a whole 2/3 left of this menu to explore. We’re all well aware how I feel about the pasta, but their wood fired pizzas, their “land” meat centric items, and the rest of the dessert menu definitely needs further investigation. Definitely.

Favorite Beverage | I personally think a meal like this goes great with wine, so I chose a great Pinot Noir they had by the glass from Ponzi Vineyards in the Willamette Valley. That’s not to say their cocktail menu doesn’t look outstanding – if I were coming in to sit at the bar and have a snack that’d probably be my route, but pasta and wine… they’re just mean’t to be together.

Must Order | You’re going to be shocked, I know, but THE PASTA. The freaking pasta. All handmade, you can even watch them making it, but definitely order the Squid Ink Corzetti (lobster, saffron, cherry tomatoes) and the Strozzapreti (wild mushroom, truffle butter). Better yet, bring 5 friends and order all of the pastas, because I’d imagine there’s not one better than another at this rate. Outside of pasta, if you’re looking to snack more definitely do a cheese/charcuterie/terrine plate. Lastly – don’t skip on dessert here. If you can’t choose between the Warm Peach + Berry Tart (thyme crust, pistachio ice cream) or the Triple Chocolate Terrine it’s because you’re not supposed to choose – you’re supposed to get both and allow your mind to fully be blown.

Perfect Spot For | after work drinks // a gorgeous dinner // something new and trendy // pasta craving // a glass of wine and some cheese/charcuterie // late night drinks // whiskey purveyors // pizza // great atmosphere // private parties // parents // date night

Pro Tip | Whiskey lovers and adventurous imbibers come one come all! Miro has what they call “The Basement Bar” located underneath the restaurant where another bar inside of that bar called “The Whiskey Room” is located. The Whiskey Room seats about 16-20 people and it’s a very special space where one can taste and sip on all kinds of incredible tequilas. (Just kidding. WHISKIES!) Honestly though my description of the magic that is The Whiskey Room would not do it enough justice so read Miro’s description and be sure to go down for a drink!
