HOW TO STYLE NYDJ’S NEW “MADE IN LA” COLLECTION

NYDJ’s new “Made In LA” collection has officially landed and I could not be more honored to share a few of the first looks from the collection! It is my mission in life to experience all things Los Angeles, and nothing makes me more proud than to find ways to represent the wonderful people and brands who create goods here in the beautiful City of Angels.

I have fallen absolutely in love with the pieces in this collection. I love that each piece in some way nods to current trends you’ll see from the Westside to the Eastside. From the high rise waists to the washes and high quality of the denim, NYDJ is definitely giving LA girls, like myself, what they want.

To bring this collection to life I chose to style each of the pieces in some of my favorite areas of the city, starting by the beach in Venice and working our way through Mid-City (my ‘hood!) all the way to Downtown LA. Both the tops and the jeans are great canvases to start with for ANY occasion – whether that be for something casual, something for work, or for something to go out in.

I started my afternoon in Venice Beach right near the boardwalk, during the summer this place is teeming with skateboards, surfboards, street performers, and a whole lot of smiles. I love the casual laid back vibe you’ll always find around these LA beach towns, so pairing this super flattering “5 Pocket Midi Skirt with Side Slits” with a fun and flirty “T-Shirt with Dart Sleeves” was the perfect place to start building a more beach appropriate outfit. Since the plan was to walk around a bit I chose a pair of flat sandals and polished off the look with a trendy felt wide brim hat. If I were doing something a bit more “fancy” I’d throw on a pair of heeled sandals and call it a day!

After the beach, we headed Downtown for “Aperitif Hour” at one of my favorite iconic rooftop restaurants/bars in Los Angeles – Perch. Perch is one of the city’s summertime “musts”, nothing beats those fantastic Happy Hour prices or those complimentary 360 views of the city and the DTLA skyline. Perch is what I would consider a “casual chic” atmosphere, and a casual chic place calls for a more thought out look. So I chose to pair the new “Tapered Capri Jeans” with a “Raw Layered Hem Tank” and paired the two with classic pumps, a light jacket, and another fun felt hat to finish this “rooftop in LA” inspired ensemble.

(Tip: with a cropped denim I always like to wear shoes that elongate my leg, so wearing something like a pump without straps or anything that hits at your ankle creates that long leg illusion!)

The quality of the denim on this pair is incredible; they’re those jeans that you never feel like you’re ready to take off. They’re so soft, so cute, and so comfortable – what more could you ask for?

The last item on the agenda for the day was to stop by the LACMA “Urban Light” installation right at sunset – it’s the best time of day to try to snap a photo and definitely worth waiting for until the lights turn on! I was heading out to dinner after visiting the lights so I decided to start with the super chic “Marilyn Straight Ankle Jeans” and pair it with a simple “Tie Front T-Shirt” (that I chose to style a bit by tying it up higher to show off the button details of the jeans) a pair of slingbacks, and a colorful blazer.

More often than not I am all about starting with functional and classic pieces and then throwing in a pop of color – or in this case two! This particular pair of jeans is right on trend with what LA girls are looking for right now in denim: they are high waisted, they have a fun “vintage” wash, and of course the button down front. You could just as easily dress these down, but for the sake of heading out on the town, they were a blast to dress up.

I love that every piece from this collection is so versatile, so on trend, and completely on brand with being “Made In LA”. When I think of “LA’s style” I think “classic”, “quality”, and “fun”… and this collection is all of that and then some.
