SOMISOMI | THE NEW MOST INSTAGRAMMABLE TREAT

Love and Loathing LA SomiSomi

I’ve never met a treat I didn’t like, but if you’re telling me there’s a delicious treat out there that happens to not only be tasty but also incredibly adorable… the ante has significantly been upped. Take these ice cream desserts from SomiSomi. If you live in LA, follow foodies, and try to stay on top of the pulse of current trends, there’s a chance you’ve already seen these little cuties somewhere on the internets or Instagrams. My best gal pal Nastassia of @letmeeatcake is ALWAYS on the look out for the latest and greatest sweet trends and this one I just needed to see and experience for myself as well.

SomiSomi is located in the heart of K-town in a mini mall on the second floor, and if you, like me, don’t frequent the K-town malls all that often then this is going to be as much of a treat for you as it was for me. So many stores, restaurants, and types of shops that I’d certainly never seen before let alone been in, it was so fun getting what felt like a real mini taste of Korea! Obviously I’ve been to K-town many times for lunch/dinner, I’m just saying I’d never really had a reason to go into one of the malls until SomiSomi came about. Anyways, back to the point, even as you walk into the mall you can smell the warm sugary scent of the cones being freshly made from inside the shop. When you order you have 4 flavors to choose from (milk, chocolate, green tea, banana) that you can swirl, you also have the option of filling your “tayaki” cone with nutella, custard, or red bean, as well as topping it off with either sprinkles, Oreo, fruity pebbles, etc.

Nastassia and I decided to split up and try all the flavors (*duh*) so I got the chocolate banana swirl, and she got the milk and green tea swirl. We opted for no filling because neither of us are filling people, BUT I’ve read that they’re pretty good if decide to go that route! We decided to keep it clean and minimal this go-around so we could really taste the cone and ice cream – and get the optimal photo of course. The cone was definitely the best part, it tasted like a warm pancake that was crispy on the outside and a bit chewy on the inside, and it was the perfect compliment to a smooth cold ice cream. The banana was a no-go for either of us, if you go, stick to milk/green tea/chocolate! And if you want to get your topping on, I respect that. You do you.
