Love and Loathing LA Baldoria DTLA

“It’s not happy hour, it’s not share plates, it’s not family style… it’s Baldoria.” Kind of in love with that? ALL THOUGH I WILL SAY…. their happy hour and shared plates are pretty fucking wonderful, so even if they did lead with that it’d be accurate, just perhaps a slightly less adorable tagline.

Baldoria opened a few months back in Little Tokyo and since then I have seen that name come up, time and time again. I recently did a little research to find out what they were all about and was completely blown away over all of the incredibly positive responses. It’s not like we can totally trust Yelp, but Baldoria has managed to get 4.5 stars and 112 reviews already?! I’m not even mad… I’m impressed.

So, in the midst of one of my busy days running around Downtown last week, I was in search of cocktails around 4:30 pm and Baldoria was decidedly the place to go. Baldoria opens at 4:30 pm Monday – Friday (11:30 am on weekends) and is the perfect neighborhood spot to grab drinks and small shared plates. Usually when you hear “it’s a great place for drinks and small plates” you assume that because of the “small plates” factor, that the emphasis won’t likely be on the food. But I have to tell you, when it comes to Baldoria, I was beyond pleasantly surprised how amazing the food actually was. I didn’t get the chance to try any cocktails (because I want an excuse to come back!!!) but from the looks and sounds of it they’re pretty impressive as well. What doesn’t sound nice about “all of our cocktails are limited editions. They are batched, bottled, numbered, and nitrogen- dosed for freshness. Our guest bartender series features numbered batches from the foremost bartenders in the region. Why do we do all this? Because you are worth it.” – Baldoria. Now I’m really regretting not getting a cocktail.

Baldoria is low key, cozy, neighborhood friendly, and happens to have some of the best adult beverages and small bites in the area. If you’re trying to figure out where to go next for Happy Hour or where to find a relatively affordable place to meet up with friends Downtown, put Baldoria on your radar!

Must Order | Must order a pizza. I ordered the Margarita pizza and added procuitto and arugula and it was to die for! Small, thin crust, delicious. I also absolutely LOVED their fried chicken toast; it’s one of those things I’d drive over for JUST to order and eat. I also tried their ricotta toast and the radicchio salad and genuinely enjoyed both.
