Like peanut butter and jelly, sunshine and mimosas are just better when paired. Take that sunshine and sparkling adult beverage, add the perfect ambiance and some delicious dishes, and you’ve got yourself a perfect summertime brunch situation. Whether it’s a patio, great cocktails, the best pancakes, a buzzing atmosphere, or all of the above, these are 5 of my favorite spots to brunch away the afternoon this Summer!
BOXWOOD ON THE ROOF // THE LONDON HOTEL
The London has always opened its rooftop for cocktails, lunch, and dinner during the Summer, but THIS Summer marks the first year that they’re offering brunch on the roof! With sweeping 360 degree views of Los Angeles below, a chic atmosphere, and a ‘to-die-for’ brunch menu this is THE spot this season to dine and drink alfresco on a Sunday afternoon.
Cocktail of choice: Watermelon Bellini (exactly what it sounds like)
Dishes of choice: Basket of Bakeries (duh), Dungeness Crab Toast, Lobster Benedict, Spinach Salad
Info: Boxwood on the Roof // Brunch: Sunday only // Menu
Weho: 1020 N San Vicente Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069
BALTAIRE
If there’s such thing as a “sexy” summer brunch, Baltaire takes the cake. If weather permits Baltaire has a retractable roof to allow sunshine in, but no matter the season there will always be cozy nooks with plush seating and lit fireplaces. If there’s a brunch that is 100% guaranteed to impress all the way around, Baltaire has that sh*t on lockdown.
Cocktail of choice: Frankfort 75 – buffalo trace bourbon, st. germain, cassis, lemon, champagne
Dishes of choice: Prime Filet Benedict, Chilequiles Verdes, Caramelized Brioche French Toast, Organic Iceberg Wedge
Info: Baltaire // Brunch: Saturday + Sunday starting at 10am // Menu
Brentwood: 11647 San Vicente Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90049
SAWYER
Even after only having been open for three weeks, Sawyer’s brunch was completely packed to the gill with people and creating quite the commotion on social media with their adorable patio, bright interior, and beautiful dishes. The team claims to still be working out some kinks to which I responded, “what kinks?” The casual/cool summertime feel of the restaurant itself with its huge open windows facing Sunset Blvd and cute little umbrella covered patio is reason enough to want to brunch here, but fortunately the cocktails and brunch make it all worth coming back for.
Cocktail of choice: Strawberry Bellini (exactly what it sounds like – but so appropriately seasonal!!!)
Dishes of choice: Quinoa Bowl with Poached Eggs, Chicken & Waffles, Biscuits, Avocado Toast
Info: Sawyer // Brunch: Saturday + Sunday starting at 10am
Silver Lake: 3709 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90026
FAITH + FLOWER
For those roasty-toasty weekend afternoons, the ONLY place you need to consider brunching at this season in DTLA is Faith + Flower. They’ve just launched a brand new summer inspired brunch menu that is the perfect compliment to the *air conditioned* gorgeous and grandiose space. Faith + Flower’s menus are meant for sharing, and trust me, when it comes to this fun and eclectic, modern “California” brunch you’ll be thankful to try as much as you can.
Cocktail of choice: English Milk Punch – (you ready for this…) Navy-Strength rum, aged Spanish rum, white rum, bourbon, brandy, curaçao, Batavia Arrack, Pernod Absinthe, Sencha green tea, cinnamon, clove & coriander, clarified milk.
*This cocktail won Esquire Mag’s “Cocktail of the Year” award in 2014!!!*
Dishes of choice: Kimchee Cornbread, Eggs Benedict Pizza**, Plancha Seared Hash Browns, Downtown LA Breakfast
Info: Faith & Flower // Brunch: Saturday + Sunday 10:30 am – 2:30 pm
DTLA: 705 W 9th Street Los Angeles, CA 90015
ESTRELLA
Estrella is undeniably one of the best restaurants in LA capable of providing the “full package”. They’ve got style, they’ve got a beautiful and romantic “canopy” patio, they’ve got a fabulous cocktail program, and they’ve got beloved Chef Dakota Weiss who has literally not once disappointed me or probably anyone else for that matter. ‘Brunch of Champions’ at Estrella on a warm summer day is just a no-brainer!
Cocktail of choice: Love Is Thicker Than Water – vodka, Averna, cold brew, vanilla cream
Dishes of choice: The Rolling Stone (bacon wrapped avocado with a baked egg and queso fresco), Chai Tea Spiced “Bread Pudding” French Toast, Ham & Cheddar Biscuits N’ Red Eye Gravy
Info: Estrella // Brunch: Saturday & Sunday 10 am – 3 pm // Menu
