Overview | Nick + Stef’s is back in business baby and they are lookin’ fabulous and feelin’ better than ever. Located Downtown’s Bunker Hill, the well respected steakhouse has been an LA institution for over 15 years now. But in keeping up with the Joneses – so to speak – and the floods of new neighbors opening up shop around them, this year seemed an appropriate time to embark on a bit of a restaurant revamp. These days (as of last month) the steakhouse is a mid century modern inspired gem with gorgeous decor and fresh menu items featuring inventive yet classic twists. Nick + Stef’s have not only added an entirely new exclusive menu dedicated to water (don’t knock it till you try it!), they’ve also added table side prepared salads and “in-house dry aged beef” to their ever-growing list of amazing tricks and techniques.

Between menu items such as wagyu, lobster, oysters, crab cakes, and sides like mac n’ cheese, a loaded potato, creamed spinach, and fries, staring at that menu I felt like a kid in a candy store. And it wasn’t even my birthday. Decadence deserves to be dined and enjoyed slowly. And when it comes to a meal at Nick + Stef’s take your sweet sweet time because it is truly a special and memorable type of experience. The space may have gotten a little face lift, the menu may have been updated slightly, but Nick + Stef’s is timeless and will most certainly remain a part of Downtown’s dining history. 15 years in LA is like 100 in New York, and the respect and new found appreciation I have for this place is genuinely undeniable.

Favorite Drink | With over five HUNDRED different wine labels available for your perusing… maybe have wine? Ask your server for recommendations!

Must Order | The table side prepared Cesar Salad is a MUST – even if you think you don’t like cesar salads, there’s a good chance this one will change your mind. // The “in-house” dry aged New York was the cut I went with, but you’d be safe ordering any of their grass fed, wagyu, or dry-aged beef options. They seem to know what they’re doing in the meat department. // In terms of sides, the Orecchiette Mac n’ Cheese with gruyere and fried shallots is not to be missed. Rich, yes, worth every calories, completely. // And lastly for dessert, the “Liquid Chocolate Brownie Cake” was simply stunning. STUNNING. And I don’t even love chocolate desserts! But this is one dessert I would come back for.

Perfect Spot For | Date night // business dinner // happy hour // client dinner // celebration // private party // a damn fine steak // a place to take the parents

Pro Tip | Parking was not entirely obvious to me, so just incase you run into the same dilemma make sure you park in that “Wells Fargo Center” building. Nick + Stef’s is located on the floor above parking and they will validate! Parking is free before 5pm and $9 flat after that.

Fun Fact | Nick + Stef’s offers a ‘social hour’ from 3-7 pm on weekdays and 4-7 pm on Saturdays. Select beer, wine, and well drinks are just $7.

Bonus Fact | In the spirit of the season, Nick + Stef’s will be offering a $55 3-course prix-fixe Thanksgiving menu ($19 for children 10 and under) on November 26th from 3 – 9 pm. It looks like a great deal if you’re hoping to get out of cooking!
