Overview | Love & Loathing has finally met Love & Salt, and what a joyous first meeting it most certainly was! Ever since their grand opening no more than a year ago I have been curious to what this “Italian inspired” restaurant with “California soul” has had to offer. Their location in the heart of Manhattan Beach is surely an added bonus to the whole, but there is quite a bit a more that makes Love & Salt the refined, intelligent, and stunning young lady she is. With a gorgeous space, a seasonal Italian/Californian concept, and chef Michael Fiorelli in the kitchen, Love & Salt was destined for greatness from the start. Good news is: it’s still pretty freakin’ great, and apparently only getting better.

As much as I’ve been dying to join Love & Salt for a candle lit dinner, I’ve been as equally curious about what happens during their weekend brunch. Last Sunday I took a drive down the coast and made an afternoon out of being in one of my favorite of the local beach cities stopping first of course at Love & Salt for a classy way to get my Sunday Funday started. Rosé, the beach, a breakfast pizza, and of course pancakes could not have made for a more brilliant recipe for a perfect day. The Love & Salt brunch menu is made up of a variety of toasts, breads, “breakfast-ish” items like dishes with eggs and ricotta pancakes, pizzas aka “pies”, and sandwiches and salads for those not so interested in the brunch items. With all of the gorgeous natural light that comes from the ceiling skylight, Love & Salt is a perfect, warm host for a quintessential California brunch.

Favorite Drink | I am regretful as I type, but during my visit I opted for a glass of their Rosé, which was LOVELY for the record, but I wish I would have ordered one of their brunch cocktails. They make a few specifically for their brunch service and they all look incredible – the #INEEDCOFFEE (bourbon, amaro nonino, cold coffee, cream) and the Rebel Yell (bourbon, blackberries, basil, lemon, ice tea) are first and second on my list for my next visit.

Must Order | I have fantasized about eating the Toasted Zucchini Bread practically every morning since last week – so clearly this is a mandatory dish. I’m typically not much of a ricotta pancake person but THESE ricotta pancakes were simply outstanding – definitely a dish to share though.

Perfect Spot For | brunch (duh) // cocktails // dinner // date night // taking the parents out // a pizza craving // just dessert

Pro Tip | Don’t be like me and forget to order a brunch cocktail.

Fun Fact | Love & Salt is owned and run by father daughter duo Guy & Sylvie Gabriele. Isn’t that awesome? And the name comes from the two things all great food needs: love & salt. Isn’t that also awesome?
