The “Parisian Power Lunch”: a minimum 2 hour event where the main goal is in fact not to “power” at all, it’s simply to eat well, drink wine in the afternoon, and engage in excellent conversation. If there’s one place in LA that is the epitome of Parisian perfection, or a place dedicated to some of the best gifts France has bestowed upon us from in terms of culinary based achievements, it’d have to be L’Assiette Steak Frites on Melrose. This may come as a shock to you but L’Assiette Steak Frites is known for having completely mastered the fine art of “Steak Frites” which, for those of you who don’t speak French or might be from another planet, is a dish comprised of steak (prepared sous-vide), “pomme frites” (french fries), and most importantly, a delicious sauce to smother it all in. During lunch service the classic Steak Frites is $17, but you have the option of adding a shaved black truffle sauce for $7, and/or shaved black truffles and foie gras for $15 extra. If you like truffles like I like truffles, do it, at least add the sauce – warning though you might lick the plate clean. The Steak Frites deal during dinner service is $25 for the same thing except for when you’re finished with your 1st plate, they go ahead and bring you another one. Yep. Two plates of Steak Frites, totally cool, trust me you’ll wanna keep ’em comin’.
L’Assiette of course specializes in this dish of bliss but it’s worth noting that during lunch they prepare a bevy of other perfectly acceptable and tasty dishes as well including a few sandwich and salad options. Dinner though? Just Steak Frites/Poisson (fish of the day) Frites/or Portabello Frites. L’Assiette is worth going to for the delicious food and casual day drinking atmosphere alone but the space itself makes the experience all the more perfect, Parisian, and pleasant. With a grand marble bar and plenty of cozy seating, L’Assiette is the ideal setting for a casual, relaxed, chic, perhaps even romantic meal.

Fun Fact | L’Assiette’s choice of meat is a particular cut called a Coulotte and is rather uncommon in North America, mainly because it is a small cut in comparison to most. So, more of a reason to go try it! It’s delicious.
