I’m sure you were incredibly upset to find that I had no post for the blog yesterday, and for that I am terribly, terribly sorry. But I was busy having the most hectic/awesome/weird day I think I’ve had in a long time. I was not only hit in my car by a brand new BMW, but that BMW sped away before I could have a chat with him. That action then forced me to call the police panicked and pissed. Funny part is, when the police found me they gave me a practically script read rundown of what was to happen (as expected) and as they we’re accessing the damage, assuming I wasn’t paying attention, I watched them mutter softly amongst themselves and giggle. About my car? No. About something funny happening at the Starbucks behind me? Nope. Most likely the giggles we’re aimed at me. And my fancy polka dot dress, my heels, my red lips, and my massive Opening Day hat. It practically had me laughing because I did look ridiculous, I made sure at some point in my conversation with these gentlemen that I state my case by letting them know, “I’M GOING TO A FANCY OPENING DAY THING WITH HORSES AND HATS AND THIS IS OUTFIT TOTALLY NORMAL! OK!!”

We didn’t catch the bastard, but even that was not going to stop me from making the trek down to Del Mar to be a part of Opening Day. When I arrived, the scene was as looney tune nutty as I expected: I sat a mile away from the entrance for an hour, I trudged through the dirt (yes, dirt) in my heels, and held my big hat down so it wouldn’t fly away (many ladies were feeling my pain – pain in the ASS, these damn hats) but alas, I did indeed make it to the infamous grandiose Del Mar track. 80% of me went for the experience and to watch the Opening Day races, the last 20% of me wanted to go for the sole purpose of getting dolled up. And dolled up I did get. By the end of it all I wanted to do was put my knotted messy hat hair in a bun, walk around barefoot, wash my face with a cold beer, and throw my hat in a trash can BUT, I’m glad I went and I’m pleased with what I was able to pull together. Here’s what I wore and for the most part enjoyed wearing despite the day of obstacles!

Warning: variety in poses were limited due to gusty winds, so apologies for holding my hat the same way in every single picture, but that thing wanted to up and fly away and I just wasn’t gonna let it.
