Talk about a restaurant with a SCENE. Cecconi’s is damn near up there with The Ivy as far as I’m concerned! I feel as if I’ve truly been officially inducted into the real “LA” dining scene after having my first Cecconi meal last night in West Hollywood. It was naturally a flutter after the days commencement of the Gay Pride Parade (woo woo!) but judging by their general lack of table availability on Open Table on any given day, I knew the hustle and bustle was business as usual at this very, hot, spot.

At first glance, a place like Cecconi’s is true (West) Hollywood glam perfection; it’s got the chic decor, the perfectly manicured outdoor patio (with retractable awnings), it’s in the heart of one of the greatest (most expensive) places to shop for the home and for yourself in Los Angeles, and, the menu is very friendly – rarely do you go wrong with Italian food. I went into Cecconi’s thrilled I’d managed to get a reservation after 5pm and before 10pm,  but admittedly unprepared for the kind of scene I only expected to find at the famed celebrity hangouts like Mr. Chow’s, or The Ivy as mentioned. I have to tell you, as a complete outsider to this scene, Cecconi’s is the best place to people watch in LA maybe ever. You’ve got drunk rich people in one corner, you’ve got children dressed like their 25 in another, you have flamboyantly dressed men shouting to their girlfriends “IM DRUNK.”, you have 6ft models “dining”, you’ve got celebrities at any given moment, and somewhere peppered in around there are the normal people just curious about the fuss, the food, and the wine menu – moi. At least I’d like to think I’m normal… I’d also like to think I’m a 6ft model but anyway… as I was saying…

I gotta give Cecconi’s a lot of credit, I was a little, just a little!, nervous after sitting down for my meal. Sometimes… when you have all the makings for the perfect restaurant (gorgeous decor, loyal patrons by the droves) the food department may tend to fall by the wayside. This was THANKFULLY not the case: the food, all around, was wonderful, and the service was some of the best service I’ve had in a long time (shout out to our amazing waiter Brandon) – the evening overall was a delight (people watching being the added bonus). I spent 3 and 1/2 completely enjoyable hours drinking wine and eating a delicious and fairly priced meal – the $48 bottle of Barbera is a huge recommendation on my part. Another recommendation – don’t forget dessert (but that kind of goes without saying, c’mon.) We shared the “meyer lemon meringata & berries” and the “coppa, toffee & wild cherry” and decided you just can’t have one without the other. Brandon agreed.

Cecconi’s holds their own in the food department and they’ve got a hip, romantic, ideal dining space to boot. They’re open pretty much all the time (breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner) so anytime is a good time to visit and I highly recommend that you do. I’m particularly looking forward to coming in for breakfast as I’ve heard quite a few good things about that menu as well. You’re in for quite an eventful, certainly not boring, outing in store should you choose to dine with Cecconi’s. Make sure you book ahead of time because I’m telling you, they really are always packed! Whether that be for the food or to see and be seen, it’s a spot every Angeleno and every curious visitor should try at least once. It doesn’t get more LA than this West Hollywood staple.
