To all the burgers in the place with style and grace

Yes. Mind Bottling.

Well. in case you were not aware, there’s an extra added bonus special reason I’ve chosen to share with you some epic cheeseburgers you can find in LA… IT’S NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAY!!! And what a great day it will be at that, I can’t wait for all of us to take one big juicy bite out of our selected burgers and then post a picture on instagram for all our followers to jealous-drool over. Sighhh. On that note though, I don’t know about you, but I’m a little over seeing and reading about the same burger suspects these days, don’t get me wrong I got mad respect for Fathers Office, Rustic Canyon, and Apple Pan, but you and I both know very well there are a plethora of burgers out there worth receiving some attention. So that’s what we’re gonna do today people. We’re gonna talk about 10 burgers in LA you may or may not have already tasted or heard of, that happen to be just as delicious (if not more) than their more famous burger brothers and sisters across the land. If your mouth starts watering and your tummy starts grumbling don’t say I didn’t warn you.

1. Burger de Paris | Meet In Paris

A French restaurant. Possibly one of the most unlikely of places to find a damn near perfect burger, but alas a Frenchie she is. The Burger de Paris can be found in Culver City at Meet In Paris, and even though she’s a bit on the fancier side of the burger spectrum she’s one you do not want to pass up. Expect a thick juicy patty topped with caramelized onions, gruyere, arugula, tomato, and aioli – if there’s one thing the French know, it’s aioli. Plus those perfectly cooked matchstick pom frites that come along with it… fuhgetaboutit.

2. The Barrister | Justice Urban Tavern

I may have just given you an entire run down on what to expect from Downtowns very own Justice Urban Tavern but there was one teeny tiny detail I decidedly left out an extrapolation over. And that, is their classic cheeseburger they call the Barrister Burger. There’s a reason why the basic, true to form, classic burger like In n Out always end up being our favorite burgers: they’re simple. The Barrister comes topped with American cheese, butter lettuce, roasted tomato, and house pickles, all sandwiched between two warm n’ fluffy brioche buns and it could very well be my favorite latest discovery – this burger can do no wrong.

3. Double Cheeseburger | A-Frame

Pfffft. And you thought one patty was enough. At A-Frame they like to take your cheat meal to the next level, and adding that melty cheese and an extra patty to their Double Cheeseburger was an incredibly excellent executive decision. King of LA and chef at A-Frame, Roy Choi, created A-Frame as an homage to the Korean-owned burger stands “holding it down in LA”, and after having been many times myself, it’s evident he’s successfully paying his respects. The Double Cheeseburger comes with tomato confit (oo, fancy), pickled red onions, butter lettuce, hot sauce, sharp cheddar, and sesame mayo – quite the epic classic burger with some real LA flavor.

4. The Hangover | Mud Hen Tavern

If you, like me, like to put an egg on everything, then The Hangover burger at Mud Hen Tavern is a burger with our name on it. Take their classic cheeseburger which is made with Lyndi and Grundi (LA’s favorite butchers) 100% organic grass fed beef, marinated tomato, aioli, aged cheddar, and homemade pickles, then add some breakfast (i.e. thick bacon and a fried egg) and call it a breakfast and burger lovers success.

5. Any And All Burgers. | The Escondite

The Escondite not only happens to be one of my favorite bars in all of LA, it also happens to offer some of the best burgers you can find here in Los Angeles. This special little Downtown hideaway (with the most epic views of the city scape) is home to some of the wildest burger concoctions, most of which you will only find at Escondite, and all of which you are likely to completely enjoy. My favorites for obvious reasons are the Fat Albert: provolone, applewood smoked bacon, maple syrup with a donut bun, and the breakfast lovers delight, the Captain Kangaroo: egg over easy, hash brown patty, cheddar cheese, Canadian bacon, breakfast gravy, and cholula. 6. Bacon Burbonator | The Morrison

I wrote last week about how The Morrison has one of the most epic happy hours in all of Los Angeles but you’ll be pleased to know they also offer some of the most epic burgers in all of Los Angeles as well. And yes, you can have both at the same time. If it’s one of the more nutty “fad” burgers you’re looking for, they’ve got a ramen burger? But if it’s something a big more principal the Bacon Burbonator is a must. Picture this: a beef patty, topped with thick cut bacon, blue cheese, and a bacon-onion jam, all of which comes together in the most harmonious of flavors – and this is all coming from a girl who doesn’t even like blue cheese, THAT’S how good this burger is. Word to the wise: don’t forget to order the sweet potato fries or the onion rings, or may you regret that decision for the rest of your life.

7. Bacon Cheeseburger | Salt’s Cure

You won’t get much more than “bacon cheeseburger” written on a chalk board at Salt’s Cure but take my word for it, it’s a burger you want to order. She may cost a little more than your average burger, but that simple, fresh, and to the point little number is worth the cost of that organic in-house butchered beef and then some. Expect a classic, no “bells and whistles” burger that is served with a thick round patty topped with melted cheese between a toasted bun. I get the sense people are slowly catching on to this burger so get in while you can before they make a “Top 10 Burgers In LA” list!

The Comme Ca Burger

8. The Comme Ca Burger | Comme Ca

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Comme Ca burger is my favorite burger I’ve found thus far in Los Angeles, and we’re coming up on 7 years now of some very extensive research. The first bite of this burger is a feeling much like how I’d imagine holding your child for the first time would be. Weird, but it really is the most sincere emotions of love and excitement that comes over me while enjoying the Comme Ca Burger. I dare you to go in to Comme Ca and have that burger then tell me you don’t know what I’m talking about! There’s pure magic in that “prime beef and Vermont cheddar” burger – and that may be all they’ll tell you about it but trust me that’s all you’ll need to know.

9. Belcampo Burger | Belcampo Meat Co.

A butcher shop who know’s how to make a burger… go figure? Belcampo located Downtown in the historic Grand Central Market is more than just your local source for fine cuts of meat, they also offer a full service “modern meets retro” dining experience where you may post up at their counter and enjoy their all around perfect burger. This classy yet sassy burger comes with a 5.5 oz dry-aged grass fed beef patty, topped with cheddar and caramelized onions. Expect Belcampo to be in your regular burger rotation thereafter.

10. The Kauaiian | Shaka Shack

There’s something you should know, if you don’t already, about Shaka Shack in Santa Monica… it’s kind of a big deal to us Westsiders. I say that, but then for some reason it doesnt seem to get written up and praised as often as it should. It’s no secret here West of the 405 that Shaka Shack offers some seriously legendary burgers but perhaps some can’t see the beauty behind the goofy Tiki/Hawaiian theme we know all too well. There’s a good chance those people though, the inquisitors, the drive by-ers, probably haven’t tried Shaka’s “Kauaiian” burger that comes with 1/3 lb grass fed Black Angus beef with pickles, *bbq mayo, romaine, red onion, swiss cheese, and bacon. They offer plenty of other burgers on par like their “bougier” option, the Kobe Kahuna, or their simpler alternative, the Shack/Double Shack, but there’s something special about that exotic Kauaiian… something you’ll just have to taste for yourself to see the burger brilliance.
