TEA TIME!

One of the most fun and girly things to do in LA is to have Afternoon Tea at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena. The Langham is home to my absolute all time FAVORITE high tea service, which makes for the ultimate excuse to dress up and hang out with my gal pals. Dressing for tea is definitely a big part of the appeal because you can (and should) have so much fun with it!

THE BEST OTK BOOTS FOR FALL | UNDER $250

HIP HIP HOORAY! It’s boot season babes!!! And it’s almost cold enough outside in LA to wear them without sweating! If there’s one thing I buy myself every single Fall without fail, it’s a new pair of boots. Or several… because, variety, duh. Sure I have 10 pairs of black booties, but they’re all very different you see, and they all serve their very specific purposes. But when it comes to the trendiest of boots this season, you really only need to invest in one kind of over the knee boot. I’m not going to stop you from stocking up on several, but you really do only need one solid pair. I bought these black OTK boots last year at Nordstrom, and I couldn’t wait to bust them out again this year. They’re made by Marc Fisher – who I think makes the best OTK boots for the price – they have a great heel height, they’re comfortable, they’re still in style, and I didn’t have to break the bank on them.

TO DUST OR NOT TO DUST, THIS SEASON IT’S NOT ACTUALLY A QUESTION

If I have one favorite thing in my closet right now it’s this silky soft duster from GM Studio. GM Studio is an LA based brand, they actually make everything in LA, and this duster has been the absolute best outerwear item to throw on while the weather in LA has been gently gliding into true Fall weather. It’s lightweight, the fabric is rich and it’s completely current and on trend. But really though the great thing about a duster like this is that it’s a piece that will never go out of style. I will always have use for a lightweight, comfortable, and neutral trench/duster.

HOW TO DRESS FOR FALL WHEN IT FEELS LIKE SUMMER

Oh hello! It’s me! I’m back again, totally alive, all is well. Last week I was shooting something VERY exciting with Visit California, so I was a bit MIA on all fronts while filming. We’ll have to wait to chat about the shoot logistics but in the meantime, it’s back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Turns out it’s still summer in LA – who knew? So it’s been miserable the past few weeks attempting to wear even ONE of the trends for Fall. If it doesn’t look like a mini dress and sandals, I don’t wanna wear it. But I’ve been making a point to find ways to pair my new favorite trends for Fall with practical pieces from Summer. One of my favorite looks right now is high waisted shorts  – the ones we wore ALL summer – paired with the perfect long checked blazer for Fall. You can make this look so chic yet casual, and the best part is you probably wont over heat in this 80-90 degree weather but you’ll still be rocking a hint of a cooler weather look.

HOW TO WEAR THE BEST COLOR COMBO OF THE SEASON: PINK + RED

If you’re tapped in on the happenings within the fashion world, you’d know that Fashion Month has just come to a close. While I love seeing what’s coming down the runway, I personally love seeing the street style surrounding the shows even more. It’s where I get my more “realistic” inspiration for what to be wearing – especially what to be wearing right now. I absolutely LOVED all of the menswear inspired looks – nothing makes me happier than a bad ass power suit. But of all the recent street style looks I loved, I was hands down drawn the most to the looks that incorporated bold reds or bold reds paired with bold pinks. I looked at some of these looks and thought, “I DEFINITELY need to try that.” Wearing pink and red together makes for quite the statement, but there are certainly ways to take the trend and make a bit more casual or approachable for day-to-day look.

A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN IN TULLE

One of my absolute favorite fabrics right now, especially when it comes to dresses or skirts, is tulle. I never would have imagined all of the fantastic ways the fashion world would breathe new life into such a timeless elegant fabric, but in 2017 I have been amazed by new takes on an old trend. Tulle has always had this “fancy”, “stuffy”, “fluffy”, connotation in my opinion, but the way this fabric has been reimagined and styled this year is nothing even remotely close to any of those descriptions.

SUMMER IN LA PART DEUX

Happy official first day of Fall! AKA – “Summer in LA part II”, as most of us Angelenos fondly refer to it as. I say that, but remember when it rained yesterday? I never believe my iPhone when it shows showers in LA… but this time it was real! Naturally we’re back to sunshine and blue skies today, so mini skirts and crop tops are back in rotation. In the spirit of the transition from Summer clothes to Fall clothes, I’ve been throwing on some looks that are not only appropriate for the weather, but are also appropriate for current Fall trends.

YELLOW & PASTELS PLEASE.

I have taken quite a bit away from all of the trends that hit New York Fashion week, and one of my absolute favorites for Fall is PASTELS. Key pieces in pastel tones are going to be such a fun trend to play around with, especially during these “transitional” months in Los Angeles – AKA basically just the continuation of summer. I love a good pop of color, and I’ve been having a lot of fun trying on colorful anchor pieces – like these high waisted, linen, wide leg trousers – and building outfits around them. Gold/yellow was such a huge trend this Summer, and I love this more muted pastel-y yellow as we head into that typical Californian Indian summer.

LAST CALL FOR SUMMER.

I had to leave paradise this morning and MAN was that hard. I spent most of the day yesterday and this morning taking in all of the beauty that is the Fairmont Grand Del Mar property in the San Diego area, and for obvious reasons it was very difficult having to leave so soon. The fun had just begun! The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a five-star resort in every single aspect. In fact it’s rated as Trip Advisors #1 luxury hotel in the United States – which is just one of many accolades actually. But being that we’re heading into the long holiday weekend, which is kind of a signal to the “end of summer”, it felt like an opportune time to bust out the last of my summer purchases.

CURRENT MOOD: POLKA DOTS

So far 2017 has been the year of statement stripes and polka dots for me. I can’t seem to get enough of either of these trends and patterns this year, and it all seems to be culminating as the end of summer nears. I bought this absolutely fabulous blue polka dot dress hoping I’d whisk it away with me to frolic around in on the streets of the Amalfi Coast. But, clearly that didn’t happen, and my chances of pulling that off before the lounge chairs and umbrellas are removed from the beaches are slim to none. I actually pre-ordered this dress MONTHS ago thinking I’d have to wait until September for it to arrive, but much to my happy surprise it arrived a few weeks early. The only problem was, as mentioned, I had nowhere terribly exciting to wear it. So instead of saving it for some fabulous engagement, I’ve been constantly wearing it around the streets of Los Angeles. I can’t believe how many compliments I get on this dress, each one only proves to me that the price I paid for it was worth every penny.
