- ONE WOMAN ON A MISSION TO DISCOVER & EXPERIENCE ALL THINGS LOS ANGELES
Filed In: FASHION
If there’s one shoe I am seriously crushing on this year, it’s the mule. It took me a minute to get to this place, and now that I’m here I ain’t lookin’ back! I’m not typically drawn to flats, but there have been so many great flat mules coming out this year that I seem to have changed my tune a bit. I don’t think there’s a single girl in LA right now who doesn’t have a pair of mules to pair with their high waisted Levi’s. It’s definitely become part of the “LA girl” look, especially for Summer. We here in the City of Angels are all about ease, comfort, and yet anything “chic”, so mules seem to be the no brainer!
I constantly go back and forth between wondering if I can actually pull off the bandana trend. They’re honestly not the easiest of accessories to pull off, but when you do, it’s awesome. I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge – especially a fashion challenge – so I’ve been having a ton of fun playing with how to wear one of my current favorite trends hitting the streets of Los Angeles.
Is there seriously anything better than finding things you love from your favorite designers on sale? I absolutely L O V E a good sale, and the sales going on this Summer are making me one very happy shopper. Where I feel like I scored the most though was on these amazing Stuart Weitzman suede ankle booties – they’re on sale right now for $263 from $535 and they come in three colors! I stopped at just the nude pair because I could very easily go crazy and buy them all, but the great thing about these nude boots is that they’re great even for Summer. I feel like I can honestly wear these with just about anything – jeans, a pair of cut off shorts, a dress, whatever! I love that these in particular are not only crazy comfortable, but because they’re nude and they’ve got this great slimming effect. I am all about any slimming effects these days, lets be honest.
Last week I had the most INCREDIBLE opportunity to join the luxury fashion website Farfetch on a grand “Summer in LA” adventure. In just one day we shopped till we dropped at the stunning Maxfield boutique, we sipped on sparkling champagne by the pool at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we roamed *privately* through the brand new Marciano Art Foundation, and then we ended the night by *privately* dining on the rooftop of one of my all time LA favs – Mama Shelter. YEP. TRUE STORY PEOPLE. Talk about peaking early, the first day of Summer was already the best one this season I’m sure of it!
The weather this week could seriously not have been more perfect – seems so fitting for the first official week of Summer! Naturally whilst strolling around Santa Monica yesterday, I decided to stroll on down to the beach to take in the beautiful Summer setting. This was one of those days where I felt so incredibly grateful to live where I live. To be able to just say, “you know what? I feel like walking down by the beach right now”… and then just doing it on a whim while its 80 and sunny… is kind of amazing. I really am so grateful for this city, this weather, and these beautiful beaches. I’m actually wearing a shirt that was made as a collaboration between Madewell and The Surfrider Foundation to support the foundation’s mission to protect and preserve our beautiful coastlines. They have a small limited collection out right now that includes this ADORABLE t-shirt that comes in blue or red writing, along with a great little straw tote and some fun pairs of sunnies.
Two of my favorite trends this Summer: yellow, and cold shoulder tops. There’s something so “take me on a vacation” about both, and the best part is that both trends are incredibly versatile and budget friendly. I have found so many chic cold shoulder tops for less than $100, with some of my favorites being even less than $50.
Fact: great fashion does not always have to come with expensive price tags. Case in point: the Who What Wear collection for Target – where more and more pieces showing up in my closet are coming from! I say this EVERY time they come out with a new collection, but this month’s collection is absolutely stunning. It perfectly embodies the Summer California girl who’s kicking ass at the office and having a great time on the weekends. I am definitely the “weekend” California girl today, as I am actually up in Paso Robles hanging out at one of my all time favorite wineries: JUSTIN! I just knew this dress would be perfect for the weather, it would be beautiful amongst all of the beautiful vines, and it would be just an easy breezy all-in-one outfit to throw on for a tasting and for dinner.
It’s no secret at this point that LA girls love vintage, they love Levi’s, and they love denim. The trick though always seems to be, “where do we get said vintage/Levi’s/denim!” Los Angeles may be a sprawling city full of boutiques and fashion opportunities, but when it comes to discovering the best finds, you’ve got to know where to go to get them and then what to do to modernize them a bit.
Do you have those pieces in your closet you want to wear regardless of what the weather looks like outside? I have tons of those. In fact I’m convinced that just about everything in my closet can be worn anytime – at least in Los Angeles. Denim and pleather/leather/vinyl are those materials that can totally complete any look, and as far as I’m concerned you can and should wear them whenever you like. Fortunately though it’s been relatively temperate around LA these past few weeks. It’s not too hot that I can’t wear my favorite vinyl skirt, but also not to cold that I have to coverup my favorite button down denim shirt.
Current favorite color: sunshine. I’m seeing girls everywhere rocking yellow this-that-and-the-others and I must say, I’m right there with them! I bought this Reformation dress to wear to a wedding, thinking I’d be the only one to wear such a bright color, but as turns out about 5 other girls attending had the same idea. SO many brands right now are making such cute yellow dresses it’s no surprise at all so many of us are attracted to the trend. Yellow is just one of those colors that flatters everyone, and with the warm weather starting to come through, yellow is definitely the color of the season.
