HOLY. CANNOLI. There are SO many new restaurants opening up right now. It’s admittedly been a little tricky trying to keep up! But what an insanely fun time to be living in Los Angeles; there is so much positive change and growth happening all around us, it’s impossible not to be a little curious. Maybe you’re like, “pffft, I got this city on lockdown”, or maybe you’re like, “I don’t even know where the fuck to begin”, so for those of you who feel overwhelmed by the growth yet curious to know the inside scoop, I’m here for you. I gotchu. I’ve done a lot of eating lately on your behalf, and these 5 spots are my most recent favorite discoveries! All of which have only opened very recently, so you are officially on the cutting edge of the LA Foodie 411. Enjoy.

*And if you end up going to any of these let me know what you thought in the comments!*

ANGELINI ALIMENTARI

One Sentence Summary: Famed and beloved Angelini Osteria’s little Italian sister who loves pink, lives next door, and is open everyday from 7:30 – 4:30.

What to Order: UOVA IN PURGATORIO (baked eggs, cherry tomatoes, onions, spicy ‘nduja sausage) // GINO’S MEATBALL PANINI (beef & pork meatballs, mozzarella, tomato sauce, ciabatta) // GELATO – any and all flavors.

Why I love it: I love that a bunch of Italians run the joint, and I love the space itself (very photogenic), but my favorite thing about Angelini Alimentari is their gelato – it’s made FRESH every, single, day, so the quality is pure insanity. It really is comparable to a cafe straight out of Roma, and that is reason enough for me to love it.

Location: 7317 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles 90036 ($$)

AR CUCINA

1 Sentence Summary: Beloved Downtown Culver City chef (and former chef of Michael Jackson) Akasha Richmond’s new “Rustic Regional Italian Cusine”concept born from her travels throughout Italia.

What to Order: **STROZZAPRETI CON FUNGHI** (signorina, porcini & cremini mushroom sugo, maria grammatico’s tomato strattu, grana padano) – one of the best lasagnas I’ve ever had. No joke. // POLIPO (grilled octopus, chickpea puree, escarole lemon, los olivos olive oil) // CHOPPED INSALATE (romaine, radicchio, tomatoes, chickpeas, celery, olives, sardinian sheep cheese, salami, red wine oregano dressing) // ESPRESSO GELATO PIE // STRAUSS ORGANIC SOFT SERVE (sour cherry sause & almond ameretti)

Why I love it: I love anything and everything Akasha makes, she’s the type of chef/woman/person you wish you had in your family! I also love the Downtown Culver City neighborhood (it’s actually MY neighborhood), and this is always a solid place to take people out to dinner (or even Happy Hour!).

Location: 9531 Culver Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232

PACIFIC SEAS

1 Sentence Summary: The dopest damn Tiki Bar LA ever to come out of Los Angeles.

What to Order: Tiki drinks.

Why I love it: Outside of the INSANE decor, the most fun thing about Pacific Seas is that it’s a “speakeasy” of sorts located in one of LA’s institutions: Clifton’s Cafeteria. Entering Clifton’s is like entering another universe, but entering Pacific Seas is a whole other level. Totally kitschy, totally silly, but totally freaking awesome.

Location: 648 S. Broadway Los Angeles CA 90014

BIANCONI

1 Sentence Summary: 3rd Street’s new breathtakingly beautiful dining space with delicious contemporary Italian cuisine and fantastic wine/cocktails.

What to Order: [the menu is B I G.] TONNARELLI ALL’ASTICE BLU (housemade tonnarelli, Mediterranean blue lobster, cherry tomato sauce) // FIORI DI ZUCCA (fried stuffed zucchini blossom, mozarella, anchovies, tomato sauce) // CACIO E PEPE (Cacio e Pepe Bianconi Style)

Why I love it: This is one of the most stunning restaurants I’ve seen pop up in a while. You can tell a lot of love and thought went into the whole operation. It’s a very cozy/sexy dining space; definitely one that makes you want to linger and sip on more wine by the fire. I absolutely love owner Fabrizio Bianconi’s other restaurant, Via Veneto in Santa Monica. This is a great sister restaurant to such an LA classic. Did I mention it’s really pretty?

TABULA RASA BAR

1 Sentence Summary: The coolest cozy little beer/wine/snacks concept in Thai Town with the coolest name ever.

What to Order: Wine & Beer – you can’t go wrong there! But also their pretzel and the sausage plate if you’re in need of a snack.

Why I love it: Talk about a TRUE, and LEGIT neighborhood joint. Even if you don’t actually live in the area the simple “vibe” Tabula Rasa has is just incredible and worth traveling for. It’s a great space with a hip flare and great food and snacks to boot. They’re also going to be doing live Jazz soon. I’ve already died and gone to heaven just thinking about it.

Location: 5125 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA
