Sometimes when something is so incredibly attractive on the outside, you come to find shortly thereafter that as high as your hopes had been, it’s lacking the same appeal on the inside. I’m speaking in broad terms I realize, but haven’t you ever found that when you  finally experience LA’s latest dining phenomenon, a place so beautiful it hurts your eyes, that the grandness of the food doesnt quite match up to the grandness of its facade? Literally – the worst. Good news is boys and girls I’m here to tell you that LA’s latest obsession Estrella is not just eye candy with zero substance, she’s a 10 out of 10, inside and out. Ohhh the feels you’ll feel the minute you walk in Estrella’s stunning outside terrace with its twinkling lights, cozy seating, and whimsical decor. Similar feels will be felt as you sip on your craft cocktail and share globally inspired dishes crafted by chef Dakota Weiss under a perfect “bungalow-like” canopy setting. Talk about transcendence, Estrella is without a doubt some-kinda-magical.

Favorite Cocktail | “Sex Drugs & Rock n Roll”: Resposado tequila, mezcal, lime, ginger syrup, rosemary honey, nutmeg – mainly because of the name, but also, yum? So refreshing.

Must Order | The dinner menu is broken up in to small plates, shared plates, and big plates – the big plates are exactly as advertised: big. Nonetheless the “big” dishes such as the honey fried chicken, the grilled rib eye, and the fish (usually branzino but sometimes a different white flakey fish) ended up being my favorites! Estrella is one of those special restaurants to me because not only can does it nail it in the decor, ambiance, and main course departmentsthey can also craft some seriously mean desserts. (I swear this place is some sort of miracle.) Between the Coconut Tres Leches, the Doughnuts, and the Banana Butter Cake you can’t go wrong.

Perfect Spot For | patio seating // excellent decor // cozy seating // date night // a place for the parents // breakfast // brunch // lunch // a place to impress out of towners // girls night out // large parties // hot new spot to check out

Pro Tip | Seriously don’t skip dessert.

Fun Fact | The inspiration behind Estrella comes from from the famed Laurel Canyon bungalows of Joni Mitchell and “Mama” Cass Elliot. Estrella is named after the circus girl from the Mitchell song “Ladies of the Canyon”.

Bonus Fact | Estrella is pronounced “es-trell-uh”, because it’s a persons name not the Spanish word for “star”. Just when you so proud you remembered that word from your 8th grade Spanish class…
