Overview |  That Viviane is a stunning mid century modern vision tailored in turquoise and since the space’s recent re-opening, Viviane has been a popular subject of conversation all over town. Nestled in Beverly Hills’ Avalon Hotel, Viviane boasts indoor and outdoor/poolside seating with a brand new look designed by famed and favored Kelly Wearstler as well as a completely new “Continental Cuisine” menu crafted by beloved chef Michael Huong. Whether you’re looking to spend your morning/afternoon/or evening dining and imbibing poolside, or you’re just looking for the latest and greatest LA hot spot to hang at, Viviane covers all attractive bases.

With the first wave of Viviane news that flew downwind in my direction, I knew she and I were already slated to be excellent friends. There’s something incredibly alluring and charming about Mid Century Modern paired with the City of Angels, the two just seem synonymous to me. The way Viviane’s revival came together though, already being located in the Avalon Hotel and having a certain 1950’s feel to begin with paired with all the right people to give it a proper refresh, it’s what I’d consider to be an incredible and inspiring result. Perfection, really. From the branding, the design and decor, the structure, the location, the cocktails, to their artful plating of amazing dishes, Viviane is one of those places in LA that hit the nail so hard on the head (in every way) it actually makes me mad. Mad like, “oh you figured out the secret to life? That’s cool. But you’ll give me a taste of your incredible discoveries? Alright then.”

If you’ve got someone to impress or you’d really just like to be impressed yourself, Viviane will not disappoint. Unless design/decor/delicious food isn’t your thing of course. Viviane is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offers a weekend brunch as well, so no matter what time of day it is it’s a perfect time to go to the Avalon for a little continental cuisine with some classic throw-back LA meets throw-back Palm Springs ambiance. Can’t you just see your perfect outing now? *scrolls back up to photos* K what about now?

Favorite Drink | The Cosmopolitan (Grey Goose Vodka, Lime Juice, Cranberry Cordial). I know. But trust me, it’s to die for – and I’m not really a vodka fan! Let alone a Cosmo fan! But with this particular cocktail along with all of the others featured on the menu, it’s a well known classic cocktail crafted with a few minor updates. Ryan Wainwright is the mastermind behind the cocktail menu and is getting “back to basics” with classics like the Cosmo, a Gimlet, a Bloody Mary, an Americano, a Long Island, and a Tequila Sunrise Swizzle. I want to try them all now I was so impressed with the Cosmo. whodathunk?

Must Order | You can’t go wrong with just about any salad available at Viviane, if you’re there for lunch or dinner I really enjoyed eating and basking in all the beauty that is the Rainbow Beets and Apple Salad. It’s one of those dishes that’s almost too pretty to eat. Almost. As for main dishes the Grilled 8oz Bavette Steak and the Ricotta Ravioli were both stunning dishes, the steak being perfect to share (you do this so you can get fries too, obviously). If you’ve saved room for dessert try the Meyer Lemon Tart, it’s another one of those insanely delicious dishes that’s almost too pretty to eat!

Perfect Spot For | breakfast // lunch // dinner // weekend brunch // entertaining // quintessential Los Angeles // Continental Cuisine // Mid Century Modern fans // a place to feel like you’re on vacation // a business meeting // a seriously romantic date night // happy hour // girls night out // taking photos for Instagram // large parties // alfresco dining

Pro Tip | It my not be totally obvious, but Viviane has a happy hour! Read all about it in a previous post of mine: “10 of LA’s “Hautest” Happy Hours

Fun Fact | Beloved designer Kelly Wearstler re-vamped and re-designed the Viviane space – and she totally freakin’ killed it. Per usual.

Bonus Fact | Incredibly talented chef Michael Huang was the former executive chef of Downtown’s Faith & Flower. He left his former post to head Viviane in hopes of “getting back to his roots doing more refined and upscale cuisine”. What he has created for Viviane is simply just that.
