All of us (girls I think mostly) have dresses in our closets we’re ashamed to admit that we’ve actually only worn out once. Every morning as you look through your closet to get dressed for the day you pass it by and assure yourself that “you’ll wear it again someday, for sure?”. Then months go by and there it still sits, unworn and under appreciated. It’s usually the dresses we spend the most money on that we hang on to but hardly wear! We buy them for events, weddings, etc., and deem these purchases for special occasions only. Well, au contraire my friend, because if there’s a time to bust out that little dress it’s now, today, this weekend, and it’s a whole lot easier to pull off than you think.

I have my own personal way of casual-ifying an outfit and it usually starts with leather. If my base is an uber feminine beautiful dress, adding a leather jacket completely downplays the level of fancy. That and now that it has finally cooled off, leather happens to be a great tool to keep you warm. This particular dress from All Saints was made for long coats and leather jackets, but it’s true purpose was to carry me through the last season of weddings, engagement parties and so forth where I’d pair it with a strappy pair of tall sandals and call it a day. But I didn’t just spend almost $300 on a dress that will only be worn twice, I’ve been wearing it constantly and usually wearing it exactly how you see it above: with a leather jacket and a good pair of booties. If it’s above the knee try pairing the dress with your own favorite leather jacket and boots, if it’s midi try sandals with socks with an oversized sweater! And of course if it’s your favorite maxi, head to one of my last posts to find out how to rock your maxi through winter.
