It will be 90 degrees in LA this weekend, and despite all of our hopes and dreams of it cooling off so we can finally wear those boots we just bought for Fall, it’s just too damn hot. Summer clothes are still on our hangers, and there they will stay. I just got this gorgeous Assali maxi dress featured above with zero consideration and care for what weather I’d be wearing it in because THAT’S how bad I needed it.
When you think of wearing maxi dresses you usually assume you’ll be wearing one with sandals in warm weather to keep cool, but what if you want to rock a maxi in the Fall/Winter weather? Good news is, it’s totally possible. Maxi’s, like all other dresses, are great “all-in-one” anchor pieces that can be dressed and worn in so many ways. Maxi’s can be worn with boots and a jacket just like any other dress length, it’s just a matter of balancing the outfit to the best of your abilities. If you’ve got a long dress, it’s best to wear something light at your feet right? Think ankle boots, sandals, even pumps – not knee high or thigh high boots because it will throw off the balance to your pulled together look (in most cases). The goal is to draw attention to your anchor pieces, not detract from them, so giving your maxi more room even in cooler weather can easily be done with a pair of cool boots (especially if your maxi has a slit like the one featured!) and a mid-length blazer/coat/jean/leather jacket. You can tie the look together (and stay warm!) by throwing on a cute neck scarf and/or a wide brim fedora hat as well for that finished, fashionable, Fall/Winter look. For Los Angeles that is – you cooler climate / East Coaster’s are on your own!
