Overview | Head Chef and Southern California native Jason Neroni has partnered with Sprout LA to bring Marina Del Rey “Catch + Release”, a concept based off of a New England / Maine style seafood menu coupled with Neroni’s classic California influence. Having just opened only a few short months ago, this seafood and design lovers haven has been (unsurprisingly so) the recent buzz about town – anything attached to brand like SproutLA and a chef like Neroni is destined for greatness.
As I’d expected and hoped all the same, everything from the design centric, classy, “seaside-esque” space to the large “ocean to table” menu was enjoyable, uncomplicated, and all the while familiar yet pleasantly surprising. The melding between a more California cuisine and an East Coast like sensibility and approach to seafood is certainly a winning ticket round the LA parts. Marina Del Rey may as well be China to everyone who doesn’t identify themselves as a “Westsider”, but take it from my three East Sider dates (and myself), Catch + Release is well worth the hike to the coast.
Favorite Drink | “Surf Report”: Plymouth gin, cucumber, mint, lime, dry vermouth, anisette and “salt air” OR “Wicked Pissah”: bourbon, honey, gingerbread liqueur, amaro, lemon
Must Order | Lobster stuffed parker house rolls (duh), and what ever kind of fresh fish they’ve got that evening (the trout was to die for!).
Perfect Spot For | date night and/or a seafood craving.
Pro Tip | Sit outside if you can! It’s covered, heated, and cozy.
Fun Fact | Chef Jason Neroni used to work at famed exclusive Club 33 inside Disneyland, among many other notable restaurants of course, but Club 33!!!! So cool!
