Cinespia is in their 14th year of presenting outdoor movie screenings at the famed Hollywood Forever Cemetery and in the 4+ years I’ve lived here, last night was my first cemetery screening. I feel like I finally joined the LA club, I graduated to the next level of cool and now know what it feels like to watch a movie amongst graves and hipsters of the ultimate kind. Summer in LA officially starts the minute outdoor movie screenings begin being showed around town and it’s only proper Angeleno form to join in on the festivities – especially when it’s a screening of one of my all time favorite movies, Dazed and Confused.

Screenings (and concerts) at the cemetery are notorious for selling out quickly, so my suggestion to you (if ya weren’t already aware and on board) is to sign up to be on Cinespia’s (e)mailing list, my next suggestion is to buy tickets immediately upon availability, and lastly if it’s an option, BUY PARKING. By-standers waiting in the long winding line just looked sad… sitting on the concrete, eating and drinking their picnic goodies, ugh. No thank you. Parking on the premises is a god send so do yourself a favor – cemetery parking or BUST.

Doors for the event open about an hour, hour and a half before the screening which is plenty of time to set up your blankets, pour your wine, have some food, and hang with friends. I can’t begin to express just how much fun last night was and I can’t encourage everyone enough in LA and those visiting to get in on the cemetery screening fun. Never did I ever think I’d put the words “cemetery” and “fun” in the same sentence but there you have it. Cemetery fun.

What: Cinespia’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery Movie Screenings

Where: 6000 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90038

When: Every Saturday night during summer months – Check the calendar HERE

Tip: As mentioned, buy tickets early and buy parking!!!

Bonus Tip: Don’t forget a wine key and don’t drink too much. Not because you shouldn’t get drunk but because if you’re not near the edge of the lawn you’re not getting up to go pee. God speed.
