New favorite coat alert! Cant say I’m mad about long light weight trenches making a statement in Spring trends this year, I’ve always been a fan on long coats but it’s the versatile ones like this that make all the difference. We don’t really get to wear those typical heavy winter long coats in LA, correction we actually never do, but because 70 degrees to us feels more like 60, it’s great to have a go-to long coat like this to shield us from those Santa Ana’s. This is one of those coats I have strong faith that I’ll have forever; camel/tan coats are classic, the trench silhouette is timeless, it’s as easily dressed up as it is down, and it goes with just about everything. I usually wear it with a dress/skirt and sandals, or like I have here with jeans and a more simple/clean look.

If you know street art you know who did this mural, but even if you don’t know who this belongs to, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve passed by one of many of his LA works. The man behind the gorgeous constructed geometric like script paintings goes by the moniker Retna and the script featured in all of his works is derived from a mixture of Egyptian Hiroglyphics and Native American calligraphy (along with several other influences) – although the writing does not actually belong to one language. His “universal” works consist of messages/poetry that truth be told the average pedestrian cannot easily decode, but hey, it’s not to say you couldn’t try. This particular mural is located on La Brea Blvd (and almost Melrose) and was done on the face of The Lyric Theatre, and it’s one of the most recent Retna works to go up in LA. And I fucking love it. So next time you’re cruisn’ down La Brea be on the look out for this big beauty.
