10 Of LA’s Best Beauty Tricks In Honor of BeautyCon LA (8/16)

Cooper St Clothing and Kit and Ace

We like to beautify here in Los Angeles, so much so in fact, we’ve actually got an entire convention dedicated to our beauty obsession coming to town this weekend where we will talk about, try, and buy all the beauty world possibilities – for an entire day. It feels like every year I live in LA I add on another beauty treatment to my already very cluttered very expensive regimen, but sadly living here it all feels like the norm. It had me contemplating, Los Angeles has a lot to offer in the beauty and pampering area, what are our greatest gems to aid in boosting self-confidence by way of makeup, hair, and everything else in between? Being an Angeleno, far too deep into this shit for my own good, here’s a few beautification spots in Los Angeles I can’t seem to live without. Warning, once you pop the fun don’t stop!

1. Get Some Lash Extensions | Beautifully Mad

Madison of Beautifully Mad is LA’s lash whisperer, and she’s here for you and any of your lash and face related needs. The most necessary unnecessary thing you’ll ever add to your own beauty regimen, but trust me it will probably become your favorite. (guilty)

2. Get Your Face Did | Blushington

Whether you’re getting married, having a girls day, or are just feelin lazy Blushington is your one stop makeup aid shop. This ain’t your Lancome counter at Macy’s makeup job, expect the best of the best here – they’ll even tell you how to recreate and what to buy should you love it that much!

website: www.blushington.com | location: 8591 Sunset Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90069

3. Get Ya Hair Blown | drybar

There’s plenty of joints in LA these days that can help you with a blow out, but for the service, esthetic, and best bang for your buck, drybar is your best bet. And thankfully they’re all over town so no matter where you are, you’re never too far from one. I got the best rocker pony tail of my life at drybar, since then I’ve remained a loyal customer when ever I’ve got somewhere to be that requires a bit of extra attention paid to my hair. Mai Tai all day. (see drybar menu for reference)

website: www.thedrybar.com | locations: Brentwood: Brentwood Gardens Plaza 11677 San Vicente Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90049 / Los Angeles: 8379 W 3rd St Los Angeles, CA 90048 / Manhattan Beach: Plaza El Segundo 2005-B East Park Place El Segundo, CA 90245 / Marina Del Rey: Waterside 4712 1/2 Admiralty Way Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 / Pacific Palisades: 15248 Sunset Blvd. Pacific Palisades, CA 90272 / Pasadena: 146 S. Lake Ave, #102 Pasadena, CA 91101 / Santa Monica: 1426 Montana Ave, Unit # 8 Santa Monica, CA 90403 / Studio City: 13019 Ventura Boulevard Studio City, CA 91604 / West Hollywood: Sunset Plaza 8595 Sunset Boulevard West Hollywood, CA 90069

4. Get Ya Hair Braided | Braid Bar at Nine Zero One Salon

It’s like drybar but for braids… I love that this even exists because the shit these stylists can do with braids is freaking MIND BLOWING. You’ll never want to take to take it out because you know you’ll probably never be able to recreate the artwork that happens at Braid Bar, but even if just for a day the complements and joy that comes from your ‘do is worth the splurge and then some.

5. Get Ya Nails Did | Pampered Hands

Pampered Hands… more like ART Hands. Why? because this place specializes in making your wildest nail art dreams come true. Whether it’s as simple as polka dots or as complicated as cupcakes or little doggies with bows and balloons and more, Pampered Hands has you covered. Be careful though, getting your nails done here is like a drug, you start with simple and work your way up to borderline ridiculous but DAMMIT is it awesome.

6. Get Things Waxed (& MORE!) | Queen Bee Salon & Spa

When I moved to LA 3/4 years ago, it was imperative I find a trustworthy looking place to help me in hair removal department, that’s when I found Queen Bee in Culver City – so damn cute I kinda wish I lived in that adorable little cottage of theirs. I’ve been to many of their waxers on staff over the years and I completely trust every single one of them to not make me wish I we’re dead as I lay on a table in “frog” position. They do much more than waxing though so the trouble you can get into is pretty much limitless!

7. Get Ya Hair Colored | Christine Chavez

I know we’ve all got our go-to hair stylists and salons but as long as I shall live and where ever she may be, my hair will only be colored by the amazing and talented Christine Chavez. I’m platinum blonde without so much as a single highlight of bleach, and it’s because Christine is a master Goldwell colorist – that is saying a lot coming from the most anal retentive person on the planet when it comes to hair so trust me when I say, she’s good. Like really. really good. Whether you want to be a blonde, brunette, or any style ombre or color under the rainbow, she’s got you covered.

8. Relax and Get Massaged or Facialed | Beverly Wilshire Spa

If you want the best of the best when it comes to spa treatments in LA, the spa at the Beverly Wilshire is the place to experience the top of the line. I’m a fan of any Four Seasons Spa but this one has an extra bonus element of relaxation – it’s got a steam room that looks like the best part about a mushroom trip, a massive rock thing that’s to this day one of the coolest installations (if we can call it that) I’ve seen, and the treatments are positively delicious. A pretty penny, but, delicious.

9. Buy All Kindsa Beauty Products | Larchmont Beauty

Think of any beauty product ever and somehow this little mom and pop beauty boutique probably carries it. They’re incredible and offer everything from nail polish, hair products, makeup, to candles and more. They carry Dyptique candles for gods sake! What I’m trying to say is I dare you to walk in there without buying something.

10. Make Your Own Signature Scent | Le Labo

“We believe that there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances” says Le Labo. They also believe that “it is more humane to test cosmetics on New Yorkers than on animals” (ha!) and that alone is worth walking into Le Labo for, but the opportunity to sit down and create a one of a kind smell, there’s nothing to compare it to – it’s totally cool and perfectly unique. All in the name of beauty and happiness, Le Labo is sure to be an experience you’ll never forget.
